A Short History of Milan by Richard Heeps

Richard started this project in November 2018 to present a new serie to the Affordable Art Fair in Milano. His work is presented there every year by Bleach Box Gallery. This is an ongoing project as he walks around the city looking for industrial and linear landscape to capture. I love his interpretation of Milan which makes me look at this place through a different eye.

So many people say that Milano isn’t a nice city and that the industrial era left a strong footprint to the place. I personnaly like the indistrial touch in the buildings and the great museums the city has to offer. I enjoy the dynamism and vibe of Milan and love observing Italian people in their daily life. It might be different from other museum-cities like Rome or Venise but being more a city girl I like visiting a city and looking at the people in their city life.

Milan is the city of architecture, modernism and design and I recognize all of this in Richard’s pictures.

Check out our gallery to see the pieces availables of his serie ” A Story of Milan” for sale.

Milan is a great city for a gateway weekend, and here are some places you shouldn’t miss out:

Fondazione Prada is not to be missed, the cafe really nice and the exhibitions and the permanent pieces displayed are very interesting. The building conceived by the architecture firm OMA and led by Rem de Koolhas is impressive and surprising as it is a mix between old buildings and new structures.

The Fondation also commissioned a project with the Dia Foundation in New York and Dan Flavin Estate a year after he passed away in Chiessa Rossa in Milan. I will check this out next time I go to Milan.

You should not miss the Museo del Novecento when walking around Duomo. The collection pays tribute to international avant-garde movements.
